Violation of this policy

[编辑]

One can mark pages which are in violation of this policy with templates:

  • Use bookname for page that needs to be moved.
  • Use Cleanup-NC at the top of the front page of a book that is not following the conventions of this policy.

Automatic tools

[编辑]

tsca.bot and Mike's bot are bots which can be used to quickly correct book naming conventions, rename whole books, and fix all links pointing to them. Admins can also quickly rename all subpages of a page—this means that renaming whole books (which follow the conventions) is very easy. You should only request a name change for books where there is consensus to perform such action. You may ask at administrative assistance for assistance in renaming a whole book or write a message to the bot operators.

Tips

[编辑]

Pages that contain slashes in their name generate links up the hierarchy automatically. This linking style can also be especially useful in a book's table of contents:

  • /Chapter/ on Book page instead of Chapter
  • link title on Book page instead of link title
  • ../Anotherchapter/ on Book/Chapter page instead of Anotherchapter

Chapter names that describe what the chapter is about, for example, "Chess/Notating_The_Game" are preferred over numbered chapters, like "Chess/Chapter_10", because inserting new chapters in between existing chapters, or reordering chapter requires less work.

Some Wikibookians suggest these common page names (but not required by policy):

Bookname → for the main page, listing every chapter in the book or for the cover page
Bookname/Cover → for the cover page, see manual of style
Bookname/TOC → for the table of contents alternatively Bookname/Contents
Bookname/Print version → for the entire book at once for efficient printing (using "transclusion")
Bookname/Prefix → for any style conventions or assumptions made
Bookname/Introduction → for the introduction
Bookname/Chapterdescription → for additional chapters
File:Bookname.pdf → for the entire book at once in a single PDF file
"Bookname" should be replaced by the name of the book and "Chapterdescription" by a descriptive chapter title.

The local manual of style is often named literally "Local style manual", "Manual of style", "How to contribute", etc. — appended to the book name, of course. Whatever it is called in the book you are editing, it would be nice if a link to it is on the same page as the table of contents. Having a local manual of style is recommended by Help:Manual of Style and further discussed in WB:LMOS.

If someone creates a PDF version of a book, it would be nice if that PDF file were mentioned at Wikibooks:PDF versions, and PDF version were placed on the table of contents to link to that PDF file.
