詞性轉換[編輯]
- 一般情況下直接加er（tall-taller, short-shorter, high-higher）
- 以不發音字母e結尾的單詞直接加r（late-later, large-larger）
- 以輔音字母加y結尾的單詞，變y為i再加er（heavy-heavier, busy-busier）
- 重讀閉音節，末尾只有一個輔音字母，雙寫這個輔音字母，再加er（big-bigger, thin-thinner）
- 部分雙音節詞和多音節詞，分別在原級前加more構成比較級（slowly-more slowly, beautiful-more beautiful）

形容詞比較級+than+對比成分 表示「...比...更...」，如:
Basketball is much bigger than volleyball. 籃球比排球大多了。
形容詞比較級+and+形容詞比較級 表示「...越來越...」，如：
The weather is getting warmer and warmer. 天氣越來越暖和了。
the+形容詞比較級+..., the+形容詞比較級+... 表示「越...就越...」，如：
The sooner, the better. 越快越好。
The more you eat, the fatter you will be. 吃得越多，就會越胖。
